He told blog Dot429 that the problem was a combination of coming out to his family and, in fact, the entire nation, not having people he felt he could trust, and not going after mental health assistance when he came back from his tour of duty in Iraq.

The day Obama signed the repeal, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid gave Choi back his West Point class ring, which had been given to him at a Netroots Nation convention in July. A moderator gave Reid the ring, and he asked Choi if he would take it back when DADT was repealed. Choi said he would.

Choi sent out a Twitter message noting, "The next time I get a ring from a man, I expect it will be for full, equal, American marriage."

Colorado may get civil union bill

Denver-A gay Colorado lawmaker said that he will introduce a civil union bill in the new year.

Sen. Pat Steadman, a Democrat representing Denver, believes the Senate, controlled by his party, will pass the legislation, but it faces an uphill battle in the House of Representatives.

Incoming House Speaker Frank McNulty said that he thought his members would have a great deal of concern over the bill.

However, Republican Rep. Kevin Priola, who will be the speaker pro tem in the legislative session, supports civil union because it is not same-sex marriage, which has been rejected by Colorado voters.

He said, though, that he would need to read the bill's specifics before he could decide whether to support it.

Republicans only hold a one-vote majority in the House, though, so a couple of progressive Republicans could turn the tide if Priola doesn't have it killed in committee.

School outs student, says law forced it

Kilgore, Texas-A lesbian high school student and her mother are suing her school district and two softball coaches for outing the teen to her parents.

According to the suit, the coaches asked the girl to meet with them in a locker room, then locked the door and interrogated her about her sexual orientation.

Coach Rhonda Fletcher accused her of having a relationship with another girl, claiming that the young woman, identified in court documents as S.W., claimed the other girl was the girlfriend of coach Cassandra Newell..

S.W. was dating the girl at the time, but when she denied the coach's allegations, Fletcher began yelling and threatened to sue her for slander. The suit says Newell made threatening ges-

tures.

Fletcher then called the young. woman's mother, asking her meet the coaches on the athletic field, where they then told her that S.W. was in a relationship with another girl.

The coaches then kicked her off the softball team, telling her teammates that she had quit.

The school district, according to the suit, said that it was legally obligated to tell S.W.'s mother.

Texas Civil Rights Project attorney Nicholas Jackson, who is representing S.W. and her mother, points to the Constitution's 14th Amendment right to privacy, saying that it prevents the government from giving out private information about people without their consent.
